Who are we?
A 1901 association
Founded in July 1983, the Mycological Society of the Argenson Massif (SMMA) aims to better understand and respect fungi (article 2 of the statutes). Deepening and sharing knowledge (beyond the sole interest of mycophagy), promoting the role of fungi, and protecting sites are at the heart of the association's mission.

The Argenson Massif
The Argenson Massif refers to the historic "Sylve d'Argenson", including forests from Benon to Angoulême via Chizé and Aulnay. We have a wide variety of sites in Deux-Sèvres and Charente-Maritime thanks to the many forests on limestone or acidic soils, wetlands such as the Marais Poitevin, as well as the coast and the islands of Saintonge.
SMMA activities
Field outings, mainly in autumn.
An annual exhibition in Prailles-La Couarde (79) in the Hermitain forest, on the second weekend of October.
A forum reserved for members, very active all year long, rich in exchanges in a friendly atmosphere and in species presentations.
An annual bulletin, published by the Federation of Mycological Associations of the West.
A lending library with several key bulletins and most European monographs published over the last 20 years.
Inventory actions on the Île de Ré, the Plaine d'Argenson Forest Creator site, the Integral Biological Reserve of the Chizé forest...
Contributions to regional or national mycological databases.
SMMA can also organize specialized sessions, educational workshops, and orders of books or equipment...
Our members

MEMBERS
SMMA has around 80 members, from beginners to highly specialized levels. Several members maintain specialized websites with regional or international reach (ascofrance.fr, mycocharentes.fr).
It is managed by a board (4 to 6 members) and an administrative council of 12 to 15 members renewed by thirds at the annual General Assembly. The headquarters are at the Marigny town hall (79360). Marigny (79360).
Our partners
Since 2013, SMMA has partnered with RNE to inventory fungal biodiversity across sensitive and rare sites on the Île de Ré.
The South Atlantic National Botanical Conservatory (CBNSA), with which a partnership agreement is currently being prepared.
The municipalities of Prailles-La Couarde and Marigny, which provide financial support.
We are continuing this year the monitoring of fungal communities on the Argenson plain site.
